Saga (SAGA) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.
Tokenomics & Utility
SAGA launched with an initial allocation of one billion tokens. The original distribution set aside 30% for ecosystem and development work, 20% for core contributors, 20% for investors, 15.5% for airdrops, 10% for a foundation reserve, and 4.5% for Binance Launchpool. These figures describe how the initial allocation was divided; they do not describe how many tokens are available at any given time. Saga’s proof-of-stake design also provides token rewards to network participants. (binance.com)
SAGA has several connected jobs. Validators and delegators stake it to help secure the security chain. Developers use it in the process of provisioning and maintaining Chainlets. It also supports activity on the base chain, and project descriptions identify governance as another token function. In this way, demand for the token is linked to the network’s security and to the services developers use. (docs.saga.xyz)
Chainlet costs and the fees an app shows its users are separate matters. Saga’s model places the cost of operating a Chainlet with the developer. A developer can then choose how people pay to use the app: transactions may appear gasless to users, or the app may charge fees under its own rules. Those fees can be set in a token other than SAGA. “Gasless” therefore describes a possible user experience, while the chain still has operating costs. (assets-cms.kraken.com)
Assumptions
Saga created one billion tokens at launch for contributors, investors, ecosystem development, the foundation, airdrops and Binance Launchpool, and subsequently increased supply through network inflation. The chart shows the launch mint, reported total-supply growth between dated observations, estimated post-cliff vesting, and reported Uniswap incentive distributions; growth between supply observations and the vesting pattern are estimates. Future fundraising, much reserve spending, airdrops and community-pool payments lack complete dated amounts. The incentive payments move existing tokens and are not added to newly created supply.
- Proof-of-stake network inflation: Timing not yet established.
- Proof-of-stake network inflation: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Fundraising and investors: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- Ecosystem and development: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Foundation reserve: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Genesis and subsequent SAGA airdrops: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Saga Uniswap liquidity incentives, March–May 2025 reported budgets: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
