Overview
Realio and the RIO token
Realio is a blockchain ecosystem built around real-world asset tokenization. Tokenization creates a digital record linked to an asset or a legal interest, such as a share in a company or an interest in a fund. The aim is to make issuing and managing those interests easier across digital networks. Realio combines a purpose-built Layer 1 blockchain with applications for wallets, asset issuance, and other forms of digital ownership. (docs.realio.network)
RIO is the Realio Network’s native utility coin. It pays network transaction fees and can be staked with validators that help operate the blockchain. Realio also has other tokens with different roles. RST represents equity in the company behind Realio’s technology, while DSTRX belongs to Districts, a virtual-world application in the ecosystem. Knowing these roles helps explain how Realio’s network and products fit together. (support.realio.network)

History & Team
From an investment platform to a blockchain
Realio was founded in 2018. Its early work focused on using digital tokens to issue and manage investments in areas such as real estate and private equity. In 2019, it launched an investment platform and issued both RST and RIO. The Realio Network followed with an alpha launch in 2023, giving the project its own blockchain for applications and asset-related activity. (realio.network)
Realio’s published team page names Derek Boirun as chief executive officer, Kierstyn Kalman as chief operating officer, and Eduardo Romeiro as chief technology officer. The project has since expanded beyond its original investment platform. Freehold, its multi-chain wallet, launched on web and mobile, and Districts launched in 2025. In May 2026, Freehold added a Tokenization Studio for creating and managing asset-backed projects. (realio.network)
Technology & How It Works
A chain built for assets and applications
The Realio Network is a Proof-of-Stake blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK. Its CometBFT consensus system uses validators to agree on new blocks. A validator runs network software, checks transactions, and signs votes that help the chain maintain one shared record. Token holders can delegate eligible assets to a validator rather than run that software themselves. (support.realio.network)
Realio’s multistaking design allows three assets to be bonded for network security: RIO, RST, and DSTRX. Each validator accepts delegations in one of those assets. The network applies governance-set weights when it accounts for different staking assets. Validators and delegators can receive rewards, while network rules also allow penalties for validator failures. (docs.realio.network)
The chain also supports the Ethereum Virtual Machine, or EVM. That lets developers use familiar Ethereum-style smart contracts and lets compatible wallets connect to Realio. As a Cosmos-based network, Realio is designed to work with other chains through interchain tools. These features serve different purposes: the EVM supports applications on Realio, while cross-chain connections help move supported assets between networks. On Realio’s own chain, RIO is the coin used to pay gas for EVM transactions. (docs.realio.network)
Tokenomics & Utility
Fees, staking, and network decisions
RIO’s main economic roles are paying for transactions and helping secure the chain. A user spends a small amount of RIO when making an EVM transaction on Realio. A holder can also delegate native RIO to a validator and receive a share of applicable staking rewards after validator commission. People who stake through validators can take part in the network’s governance process, which handles proposals such as upgrades and changes to eligible staking assets. (docs.realio.network)
The token’s issuance rules have changed as the network has developed. In 2024, Realio reported that a community-approved proposal raised its planned long-term RIO supply cap from 75 million to 175 million and increased block rewards. The stated purpose was to support validator incentives as more assets became eligible for staking. Districts adds another economic use: its Land Bank design burns part of the RIO deposited when a user claims a virtual Land Pixel. (realio.network)
RIO, RST, and DSTRX therefore connect to the same ecosystem in distinct ways. RIO supports network activity; RST represents company equity and can also be staked; DSTRX supports activity and governance within Districts. (support.realio.network)
Ecosystem & Use Cases
Issuing, holding, and using digital assets
Realio’s central use case is creating and managing tokens linked to assets outside the blockchain. A token can record who holds an interest and support transfers under the rules of a particular offering. The legal documents behind an asset still define what that token gives its holder. Realio has used this approach for company equity through RST and for the Liquid Mining Fund, a tokenized vehicle connected to bitcoin-mining operations. (support.realio.network)
Freehold brings several user tools together. Its wallet supports self-custody across multiple chains, while its Tokenization Studio provides a guided way to structure projects, set token permissions, manage treasury wallets, and track ownership records. Its stated asset categories include real estate, private equity, credit, and collectibles. The studio’s launch shows how Realio’s work extends from running a blockchain to helping issuers organize an asset’s full digital life cycle. (freehold.finance)
Districts uses the network for a different kind of ownership. Its Land Pixels represent places on a virtual map tied to real-world coordinates. Users deposit native RIO to claim them, while DSTRX supports Districts governance. The pixels are virtual spaces; the link to a real location provides the setting for the application. Advantages & Challenges
What the design offers—and what it must coordinate
Realio brings several functions into one ecosystem. Issuers have tools for setting up digital assets, developers have an EVM-compatible chain, and users have wallets and staking options. Multistaking gives the network a way to include more than one asset in validator security. Public blockchain records can also make token movements and network decisions easier to inspect. (freehold.finance)
The harder work often sits around the blockchain. A tokenized asset needs clear ownership terms, recordkeeping, and rules for who may hold or transfer it. Cross-chain versions of RIO also require coordination between wallets, bridges, and applications. These demands became visible after an August 25, 2026 security incident involving Realio’s legacy investment platform. Realio’s September 15 notice says that platform closed permanently, validators halted the chain as a precaution, and RIO representations on Algorand and Stellar were permanently deprecated. The notice says Freehold and Districts continued to operate. (app.realio.fund)
Where to Buy & Wallets
Platforms and supported networks
RIO is available on KuCoin and MEXC. Its Ethereum representation is available through Uniswap, and its BNB Chain representation through PancakeSwap. Realio’s token information also lists Solana-based exchange routes through Jupiter and Raydium. Exchange access and the network used for deposits or withdrawals depend on the platform. (support.realio.network)
Freehold and Keplr support native RIO. MetaMask can connect to Realio as a custom EVM network; Realio’s mainnet EVM chain ID is 3301. MetaMask and Trust Wallet also support RIO representations on compatible networks. Native RIO is the form used for Realio Network gas and native staking. Realio has permanently deprecated its Algorand and Stellar RIO representations, and the former investment platform at app.realio.fund is closed. (support.realio.network)
Regulatory & Compliance
Different rules for different assets
Realio’s products involve both a network utility coin and tokens representing investment interests. The company described RST, its equity token, as an offering under U.S. Regulation D and Regulation S for eligible accredited U.S. investors and non-U.S. investors. Those rules address different paths for securities offerings, including exempt U.S. offerings and qualifying offshore sales. Realio’s published procedures for regulated instruments such as RST and the Liquid Mining Fund included identity checks and wallet whitelisting. The legacy investment platform through which those procedures were described is now closed. (realio.network)
Shariah assessment concerns the terms of an activity or asset, not simply the fact that it uses blockchain. Islamic finance principles address matters such as interest, excessive uncertainty, and gambling. RIO’s published functions include fees, staking, and use in Districts; Realio’s tokenized investment products have their own underlying activities and legal terms. A Shariah assessment of RIO or a Realio-issued investment would therefore examine the particular token, how returns arise, and what the holder owns. Realio’s published token materials do not give the ecosystem a single Shariah classification. (centralbank.ae)
Future Outlook
Developing the asset platform
Realio’s longer-term direction centers on making asset issuance and management usable across applications and chains. Freehold’s Tokenization Studio gives issuers tools to set up projects and manage ownership information, while the network provides a place for transactions, smart contracts, and staking. Districts shows another route for using RIO within an application. (freehold.finance)
Further development will depend on how well these pieces work together: clear terms for tokenized assets, useful tools for issuers and holders, dependable cross-chain support, and continuing participation by validators and developers. Realio’s shift from a single investment platform toward Freehold, Districts, and its own blockchain makes that coordination central to the project’s next stage. (realio.network)
Summary
Realio combines a Proof-of-Stake blockchain with tools for tokenized assets and digital applications. RIO pays network fees, supports staking, and has uses in products such as Districts. Its place in the crypto ecosystem rests on Realio’s effort to connect blockchain activity with the practical work of issuing and managing assets. (docs.realio.network)
