Radix (XRD) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.
Tokenomics & Utility
XRD has two core network roles. It is used to delegate stake to validators, and it pays transaction fees. The published allocation created 12 billion XRD at the 2021 network launch and set out a further 12 billion for gradual validator and staker rewards. The stated emission target is about 300 million XRD a year. The allocation also included tokens for early community members, project development, incentives and network support. (radixdlt.com)
A transaction’s XRD cost can include a network fee, an optional validator tip and royalties charged by developers whose components it uses. Under Radix’s fee rules, half of the base network fee is burned; the other half goes to validators. Tips go to the validator leading the round, while royalties go to the relevant application or blueprint creator. Thus, paying a fee does not mean every XRD spent in a transaction is burned. In 2025, token holders supported a proposal to put a previously designated 2.4-billion-XRD stablecoin reserve toward ecosystem incentives and growth. That proposal also included shortening the future emissions schedule. The distinction between an existing allocation, an approved direction and a protocol change matters when describing the token’s economic model. (radixdlt.com)
Assumptions
Radix issued 12 billion XRD across eight allocations at its July 2021 genesis and creates further XRD as proof-of-stake rewards. The chart dates genesis issuance and estimates subsequent net supply growth between reported totals; those estimates are not a record of gross rewards or fee burns. The original non-reserve tokens were fully unlocked by September 15, 2021, while a later reward pool has a documented seven-day vesting period. Other reserve spending, grants and future emissions lack a complete dated release schedule.
- Genesis non-reserve token unlocking — 40% of maximum: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- Repurposed Stable Coin Reserve unlocking — 10% of maximum: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Radix Rewards campaign — 4.167% of maximum: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Growth Fund — 4.167% of maximum: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Reserve held for extension or possible burn — 1.667% of maximum: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Founder shareholder distributions — 0.625% of maximum completed by February 2024: The original schedule was changed and the new timing is not yet published.
- Radix Ecosystem Fund — 1.042% of maximum: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Radix Accountability Council formation grant — 0.0417% of maximum: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- PoS validator and staker network emissions — 50% of stated maximum budget: Emission continues with no published future rate or end date.
