The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. Tokenomics & Utility
A fixed supply with a network purpose
Nym created one billion NYM tokens, with no new tokens being minted. The original allocation included 250 million NYM in a mix-mining pool to help reward operators as the network grew. Tokens from that pool are released over time; the fixed total supply and the number of tokens already distributed are therefore different measures. Other allocations supported the team, backers, and the public token sale. (nym.com)
NYM serves three closely linked purposes. Operators bond native tokens to run nodes. Other holders can delegate native NYM to nodes, adding to their stake and sharing in rewards. Finally, the token supports payment for access: Nym converts NymVPN subscription payments made in other currencies into NYM as part of its purchase-and-credential system. The resulting access credentials allow the service to check that a subscription is valid without tying a network session to its payment record. (nym.com)
Node rewards are meant to support a dependable network. Nym’s 2026 plans include placing more weight on nodes that carry real user traffic when rewards are distributed. This would bring the incentive system more closely in line with how the service is used. (nym.com)
Assumptions
Nym created its capped one-billion-NYM supply in February 2022. Its allocations include backers, team, reserve and community, two CoinList sale options, and a pool that releases rewards to network participants; some earned rewards are later redistributed as community grants. The reported Option 1 delivery is dated and quantified, but individual vest amounts and future pool rewards remain uncertain. The chart shows creation separately from releases, and labels interpolated pool values and the monthly display of 2024 grants as estimates.
