NEM (XEM) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.
Tokenomics & Utility
NEM’s economic model starts with a fixed supply. Its technical reference gives a supply of 8,999,999,999 XEM, issued at the beginning of the network rather than created through ongoing mining. XEM is divisible into one-millionth units, so an account can send less than one whole coin. (docs.nem.io)
The token has several connected jobs. It pays for transfers and network services, including asset-related transactions. It also gives vested holders a way to take part in harvesting once they meet the threshold. Because harvesters collect transaction fees instead of newly minted XEM, network use supplies their direct block-level reward. (docs.nem.io)
XEM holders and community funds have also supported work around the chain. That differs from buying shares in a company: NEM’s development has involved community participants and several organizations over its history. The token’s day-to-day role remains tied to activity on the NIS1 network. (forum.nem.io)
Assumptions
NEM created 8,999,999,999 XEM at launch on March 31, 2015; the dated issuance chart rises in one step, with no later XEM minting documented. Community, development, marketing, stakeholder and supernode funds concern transfers of existing tokens, and some listed budgets are parts of larger funds. Their payment amounts and dates remain incomplete or unresolved, so the chart does not turn proposed grants or daily reward pools into estimated payments. The current total follows NEM's fixed-supply statements rather than a dated explorer measurement, and cumulative burns are unknown.
