Moonriver (MOVR) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.
Tokenomics & Utility
Moonriver began with 10 million MOVR. The initial plan assigned 3 million to crowdloan rewards, 4 million to community initiatives and parachain-slot needs, 2.45 million to long-term stewardship and adoption, and 450,000 to developer adoption. Two smaller allocations of 50,000 each went to an on-chain treasury and a parachain bond reserve. Crowdloan rewards were scheduled to become available partly at launch and partly over the following 48-week lease. (moonbeam.foundation)
On the original chain, MOVR had several practical uses. People paid fees in MOVR to transfer assets or run smart contracts. Collators and delegators received incentives for helping produce blocks. Token holders could also vote on proposals through Moonriver’s on-chain governance system. The network’s published model included annual issuance to fund collator and delegator rewards and other parachain needs. (docs.moonbeam.network)
Those mechanics changed during the 2026 wind-down. A Moonriver governance proposal set staking inflation to zero as part of the migration process, and the end of parachain operations ended the old gas, collator-reward, and on-chain governance roles. On Base, the verified token function is its existence as a transferable ERC-20 asset. The newer Moonbeam Protocol describes a separate role for GLMR in its planned agent-settlement system. MOVR’s earlier economic model should therefore be understood in the period when Moonriver itself operated. (forum.moonbeam.network)
Assumptions
Moonriver began with a documented 10 million MOVR allocation. Crowdloan tokens had an initial release and lease-period vesting, while network rewards subsequently changed supply until a July 2026 governance action stopped staking and collator issuance. Most reserve and grant spending lacks established payment dates; a June 2026 transfer from the on-chain treasury’s documented balance is dated. The chart’s supply growth between observations is an estimate of net change, not a measurement of gross rewards, because cumulative burns could not be verified.
- Community Initiatives and Parachain Slot Reserve — 40% of Initial Supply: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Parachain Bond Reserve — 0.5% Genesis Allocation: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- On-Chain Treasury — 0.5% Genesis Allocation: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Long-Term Network Stewardship and Adoption — 24.5% of Initial Supply: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- Developer Adoption Program — 4.5% of Initial Supply: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- PoS Collator, Delegator and Network-Reserve Rewards: New issuance depends on network activity, such as staking, so it cannot be dated in advance.
- MR58 Parachain Bond Reserve Grant Proposal: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- MR58 Beamswap AMM Development: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- MR58 Beamswap AMM Liquidity: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- MR58 Moonwell Deployment Liquidity: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- MR58 Additional Community Initiatives, Up to 16,708 MOVR: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.

Description
#821
Moonriver is a parachain on Kusama that enables Ethereum-compatible smart contracts. It is a sister network to Moonbeam, which will be deployed on Polkadot. Moonriver serves as a testing ground for new code before it goes live on Moonbeam.
