Metis (METIS)
Unlock Schedule
Metis (METIS) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.

Supply and network roles
METIS has a stated lifetime supply of 10 million tokens. The project originally set aside a large share for rewards tied to community and network activity. In 2023, it announced the Metis Ecosystem Development Fund, an allocation of 4.6 million METIS intended for sequencer rewards and application development. These figures describe the project’s supply plan and allocations, rather than the number of tokens held by the public at any moment. (metis.io)
The token has several practical roles. It pays for activity on Andromeda, so someone sending tokens or using an application needs METIS for the network fee. Sequencer operators lock tokens as part of their participation. METIS also has a role in community decisions: the project has used voting to guide changes to its economic model and ecosystem programs. Holding a token and operating a sequencer are different forms of participation, with different requirements. (metis.io)
In November 2025, a community vote approved moving an allocation equal to 20% of the total supply from existing mining-reward reserves into an Ecosystem Alignment & Growth Reserve. The change redirected tokens already within the stated supply. The reserve is intended to support activities such as validator participation and development across the expanding ecosystem. (metis.io)
Assumptions
Metis published launch and vesting terms for team, investor, foundation and sale allocations; their dated chart entries include estimated payment months where the terms give only intervals. Its airdrop, original community-mining reserve, sequencer rewards, EDF grants and later growth reserve have budgets or reward policies, but not complete dated payment histories. The chart can show the documented vesting and a lower-confidence, year-level estimate of the initial mint; it cannot reliably fill in later minting or activity-dependent distributions. Later funds and grants overlap earlier budgets and must not be added as new supply.
- Airdrop — 6%: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Liquidity Reserve — 6%: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Community Development — 9%: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Original Transaction and Community Mining Reserve — 47.7%: The original schedule was changed and the new timing is not yet published.
- Metis Ecosystem Development Fund — 46% of maximum supply: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- PoS Sequencer Mining Rewards — 30% of maximum supply: New issuance depends on network activity, such as staking, so it cannot be dated in advance.
- PoS Sequencer Mining Rewards — 30% of maximum supply: The original schedule was changed and the new timing is not yet published.
- EDF Ecosystem Funding — 16% of maximum supply: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- EDF 2024 Ecosystem Grant Commitment — 2.5% of maximum supply: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- WAGMI Approved Grant — 0.23255% of maximum supply: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- DeFi Kingdoms Approved Grant — 0.04919% of maximum supply: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- Hercules Approved Grant — 0.08% of maximum supply: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- Builder Mining Rewards — activity-dependent EDF subprogram: New issuance depends on network activity, such as staking, so it cannot be dated in advance.
- Reported Retroactive Grant Distributions — 0.02292% of maximum supply: The sources give the amount but no release dates.
- Metis Journey Aave v3 Incentives — 1% of maximum supply: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Ecosystem Alignment & Growth Reserve — 20% of maximum supply: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Later ERC-20 Mints — quantity and dates unresolved: New issuance depends on network activity, such as staking, so it cannot be dated in advance.
