Canton (CC) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.

How CC enters and leaves circulation
CC has two central jobs. It pays fees for use of the Global Synchronizer, and it rewards network contributions. Eligible infrastructure operators, validators, and application providers can earn the right to mint coins through their activity. Canton launched CC without a presale, pre-mine, or reserved allocation for founders and venture investors. (canton.network)
The economic model pairs minting with burning. Minting brings newly earned CC into circulation. When users pay network fees, those coins are burned, meaning they are removed from circulation. Fees are measured in U.S. dollar terms but paid in CC. They cover activities such as transferring coins and purchasing the shared network capacity needed to coordinate transactions. The amount of CC in circulation therefore depends on both rewards claimed and fees burned. (canton.network)
Reward shares have changed as the network has grown. The early system placed more weight on the operators establishing shared infrastructure. In the phase beginning in mid-January 2026, Canton increased the share available to eligible applications to about 62% of rewards, with the aim of linking more issuance to useful application activity. CC can also be transferred between participants or used by applications that build payment features around it. (canton.network)
Assumptions
Canton Coin is minted as network participants earn and claim rewards; its published minting curve limits what can be created but does not schedule every actual mint. Development Fund grants draw on those network rights, while a proposed transfer of older unclaimed rewards and withdrawals of locked Super Validator rewards have no established payment dates. The chart shows approximate gross minting from launch through October 2026, with monthly amounts between sparse observations estimated. Future activity-based mints remain open-ended, and fee burns reduce outstanding supply separately.
- Network contribution rewards: New issuance depends on network activity, such as staking, so it cannot be dated in advance.
- Canton Development Fund minting rights: Releases depend on future governance or treasury decisions.
- Obsidian CIP-0105 locking-design grant: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Digital Asset share of the CIP-0105 locking-design grant: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Historical unclaimed validator rewards assigned to GSF: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Super Validator voluntarily locked, previously earned rewards: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
