Overview
Yield Guild Games (YGG) began as a community that helped people take part in blockchain games. Its best-known early activity was giving players access to game characters and items they could use without buying them first. The project later built tools for game discovery, community tasks, and digital records of what members had achieved. Its YGG token was created to support participation and governance across the guild. (yieldguild.io)
The project has since widened its focus. In 2026, YGG began applying its experience in organizing players to work involving artificial intelligence, or AI. Its Guild Protocol brings people, shared resources, and paid activities together. Gaming remains an important part of YGG’s history, but the guild model now reaches beyond games. (yieldguild.io)

History & Team
From gaming scholarships to a wider guild
Gabby Dizon, Beryl Li, and a co-founder known as Owl of Moistness founded Yield Guild Games in 2020. The idea grew from lending Axies—digital characters used in Axie Infinity—to people who wanted to play. YGG expanded that approach into a scholarship model: players used gaming assets supplied by the guild and shared the rewards they earned under the program’s terms. Community managers helped new players learn the games and use crypto tools. (yieldguild.io)
YGG raised funding from investors with interests in games and blockchain technology. Its early backers included Animoca Brands, Delphi Digital, BITKRAFT Ventures, and ParaFi Capital. Andreessen Horowitz announced an investment in 2021. That support helped the guild expand from its roots in the Philippines into a broader network of player communities. (yieldguild.io)
The organization changed its programs as blockchain gaming developed. Its Guild Advancement Program, known as GAP, rewarded members for completing game and community tasks; its tenth and final season ended in 2025. YGG then explored game publishing through YGG Play. The publishing arm closed in July 2026, and the team shifted its attention toward AI-related work and the Guild Protocol. (yieldguild.io)
Technology & How It Works
Tokens, assets, and activity records
YGG was first deployed as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum in 2021. The project later introduced the token on Polygon, Ronin, and Base. These networks give members different ways to hold and transfer YGG and to take part in supported activities. As with other tokens available on several networks, the network used for a transfer matters: a wallet or receiving service must support that version. (yieldguild.io)
In YGG’s early gaming model, non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, represented items such as characters and virtual land. A guild could hold an asset while a member used it in a game. The blockchain recorded ownership, while each game set its own rules for how the item worked and whether it could earn rewards. This let a community organize access to items that individual players might otherwise have needed to buy. (yieldguild.io)
YGG’s newer Guild Protocol organizes three connected parts: guilds, which are groups of people; assets, such as shared funds or digital property; and activities, such as tasks and projects. It is designed to record members’ roles and contributions, manage shared resources, and distribute payments according to a program’s rules. Earlier YGG programs also used digital achievement records to show what members had completed. Together, these tools help a group match people’s skills with work and keep a record of their efforts. Tokenomics & Utility
YGG’s original white paper set out an aggregate issuance of one billion tokens. Its allocation assigned about 45% to community programs, 24.9% to investors, 15% to founders, 13.3% to the treasury, and 1.85% to advisers. The community share was intended for activities including member rewards and staking programs. These figures describe the original allocation plan rather than the number of tokens held by any group today. (yieldguild.io)
Governance is a central purpose of the token. YGG’s published design gives holders a way to take part in decisions about the guild and its resources. The token has also served different roles in specific programs. Members previously received YGG through quests, while staking was used in GAP and later in YGG Play to support participation features. Those programs ended: GAP staking closed in 2025, and YGG Play’s staking service closed with the platform in 2026. (yieldguild.io)
Treasury decisions form another part of the token’s economic model. In 2025, YGG bought tokens on the open market and placed them in a dedicated wallet. A buyback is a treasury action, separate from a member reward or an automatic payment to every token holder. The guild’s newer work may create further uses for coordination and payments, but each program sets out its own role for YGG. (yieldguild.io)
Ecosystem & Use Cases
Gaming communities and digital work
YGG’s gaming programs brought players together to discover titles, complete challenges, and learn from other members. Scholarships were especially useful in games where an NFT was needed to begin. GAP later offered a different way to participate: members completed quests across games and community campaigns and built a record of their activity. These programs show how the guild moved from sharing game assets toward organizing a wider range of contributions. (a16z.com)
YGG Play was a later chapter in that history. It published and promoted casual blockchain games, including LOL Land, and offered game-discovery and questing tools. YGG ended the publishing platform in July 2026. LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper closed, while GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker continued under their original developers. The distinction matters when describing YGG’s ecosystem: its former publishing platform and the games that continued with partner studios have different operators. (yieldguild.io)
YGG’s current work applies community coordination to other tasks. AI Alerts connects people in the Philippines with AI-related job opportunities. In a project with Sapien, YGG members completed data-labeling and validation tasks. The guild also launched vibecode.game to help people discover and evaluate games made with AI-assisted tools. These activities draw on the same basic strength as its gaming programs: gathering people, helping them find work, and recording what they contribute. (yieldguild.io)
Advantages & Challenges
YGG has experience bringing large groups of people into unfamiliar digital activities. Its early scholarships reduced the need for players to own gaming assets at the start. Later quests gave members structured ways to try games and build skills. The Guild Protocol extends that approach by giving different communities a common way to organize members, resources, and tasks. YGG’s history also gives the newer AI programs an existing network of people to work with. (a16z.com)
The model also faces practical challenges. A scholarship depends on a game remaining engaging and its items remaining useful. A task program needs enough work for members and a clear way to judge completed tasks. As YGG moves into AI data work, it must connect the skills of its community with what partners need. Closing YGG Play shows that a successful community activity and a lasting publishing business are different goals. These challenges concern how the guild operates, not simply how its token is designed. (yieldguild.io)
Where to Buy & Wallets
Yield Guild Games can be purchased on Kraken and, in supported regions, Binance. YGG is also available through purchase tools in MetaMask, which deliver supported tokens to a wallet controlled by the user. Available methods depend on the platform and location. (kraken.com)
MetaMask can hold YGG on supported networks. A token may need to be added by its contract address before it appears in the wallet display. The selected network should match the network used to send or receive the token. This is particularly relevant for YGG because it has been deployed on Ethereum and other networks, including Base. (support.metamask.io)
Regulatory & Compliance
Rules for YGG-related services depend on where they operate and what they offer. In the Philippines, where the guild has deep roots, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued rules for crypto-asset service providers in 2025. In the European Union, the Markets in Crypto-Assets framework sets authorization requirements for firms providing covered crypto-asset services. In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission’s guidance considers a token’s features and the rights it gives holders when applying securities law. These frameworks address legal questions; they do not assign every token the same status. (sec.gov.ph)
Shariah compliance is a separate question from legal permission to trade. Malaysia’s Securities Commission explains that its Shariah assessment of a digital token considers how issuance proceeds are used and whether the token’s rights and benefits are Shariah-compliant. Its published list of assets with Shariah statuses does not include YGG. An assessment of YGG would therefore need to consider more than its gaming origins, including its token rights and the activities funded through the guild. (sc.com.my)
Future Outlook
YGG’s next stage centers on whether its guild tools can serve work beyond blockchain games. Its 2026 plan describes uses in AI data tasks, discovery of AI-assisted games, and coordination of specialized groups. Some activities are operating, while others are being tested. Their long-term place in the ecosystem will depend on whether YGG can keep matching people with useful work and make contributions easy to verify. (yieldguild.io)
For the token, the key question is how clearly future programs connect YGG ownership and governance with those services. The original token design gave members a role in guild decisions; newer activities bring different kinds of work and partners. How those parts fit together will shape YGG’s role as the organization develops. (yieldguild.io)
Summary
Yield Guild Games grew from an NFT-based gaming guild into a broader system for organizing online communities. YGG began as a governance and participation token for that network. Its story now includes gaming scholarships, quests, a completed publishing chapter, and a shift toward AI-related work. The project’s lasting idea is the guild itself: people pooling resources and skills to take part in digital opportunities. (yieldguild.io)
