Siacoin (SC)
Unlock Schedule
Siacoin (SC) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.

What SC pays for
Renters use Siacoin to fund storage contracts and pay hosts. Hosts use SC as collateral, giving them an incentive to keep contracted data available. Miners receive SC for securing the chain. These three roles—payment, collateral, and mining reward—link the coin’s use to activity on the storage network. (docs.sia.tech)
New SC enters circulation through mining. Sia began with a block reward of 300,000 SC, which fell by one coin per block until it reached 30,000 SC. The reward remains at that level, so the coin has no fixed maximum supply. The Foundation also receives a protocol subsidy equal to 30,000 SC per block, paid as one output every 4,380 blocks. (docs.sia.tech)
SC and Siafunds
Sia has another asset called Siafunds. Their purpose differs from SC’s storage-payment role: Siafund holders receive a share of fees tied to file contracts. A 2025 network upgrade changed the Siafund fee from 3.9% to 4%. Keeping the two assets distinct helps explain Sia’s economic model. SC moves through the everyday work of buying and providing storage; Siafunds carry the fee-sharing arrangement established by the protocol. (docs.sia.tech)
Assumptions
Siacoin enters circulation through proof-of-work mining rewards and a separate Foundation subsidy introduced in February 2021. Mining rewards fell by one SC per block until reaching 30,000 SC per block; the Foundation received an initial 1.5768 billion SC, followed by outputs of 131.4 million SC every 4,380 blocks. The chart estimates calendar timing where block timestamps are unavailable, and its recurring Foundation curve smooths payments that actually arrive in steps. Named grant payments transfer existing Foundation coins rather than create more, and the available sources do not establish a September 2026 net supply or cumulative burn total.

Siacoin is a cryptocurrency that powers Sia, a decentralized cloud storage network. Sia allows anyone to rent out their unused storage space or to buy storage from others at low prices.
