Tokenomics & Utility
How NXM enters and leaves the system
NXM is backed by crypto assets in Nexus Mutual’s capital pool. Members can exchange ETH for newly minted NXM through the RAMM and redeem NXM for ETH through the same mechanism. Its supply can therefore change as members mint and redeem tokens; staking rewards also add NXM, while accepted claims can burn it. This links the token’s economic model to the mutual’s capital and underwriting activity. (docs.nexusmutual.io)
The RAMM uses separate virtual pools for minting and redemption. Its rules also consider the mutual’s minimum capital requirement, which is tied to the amount of active cover. In simple terms, the design manages how much ETH is available for token swaps while leaving capital available to meet claims. It replaced Nexus Mutual’s earlier bonding-curve model in 2023. NXM has several practical roles. Staking it helps make cover available; holding it gives a member a voice on proposals; and it can be used to pay for cover.
