Mintlayer (ML) Token Unlock & Vesting Schedule
The chart shows gross modeled releases of every allocation: vesting unlocks, new issuance and reserve distributions, each allocation counted once. These have different meanings; a scheduled release is not evidence that tokens entered circulation or were sold. Review the coverage, sources and assumptions below.
Each color segment in the chart corresponds to a specific allocation group described in the Allocations section below. Underlying assumptions and data models used to reconstruct this schedule are explained in detail under Assumptions, while broader utility insights and token use cases are covered in Tokenomics & Utility.
Tokenomics & Utility
Supply and distribution
Mintlayer’s published economic model starts with 400 million ML allocated across sales, development, community incentives, reserves, marketing, and the team. Its stated supply cap is 600 million ML. The difference is intended to enter the system through block rewards over roughly the first decade of network operation. Some of the original allocation followed vesting schedules, which released tokens over time rather than all at once. (docs.mintlayer.org)
ML has several direct network uses. It can pay transaction and token-issuance fees, and staking it lets holders help support block production through a pool. The protocol also specifies ML charges for certain asset-management actions, such as changing a token’s supply or authority; these charges are burned under its published model. Mintlayer describes fee payment in other tokens as a future feature that would depend on whether block producers accept them. (docs.mintlayer.org)
These roles connect the coin to activity on the network. Creating assets calls for issuance fees, using the chain calls for transactions, and producing blocks calls for stake. ML can also be one of the assets exchanged for BTC through Mintlayer’s swap system. (mintlayer.com)
Assumptions
Mintlayer's mainnet began with a 400-million-ML premine, divided among nine published allocations with TGE and monthly vesting terms. Proof-of-Stake blocks create additional ML under ten declining, code-defined reward rates, ending after a specified block height rather than a guaranteed calendar date. The chart can show the dated vesting and height-based issuance, but projected calendar dates for future blocks and some monthly vesting placements are estimates. Grants, testnet rewards and bug-hunt prizes have documented budgets or funding descriptions without verified payment histories; the available sources also do not establish a current net supply or cumulative burn total.
- Pre-TGE public sale: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Open-source development grants initiative: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- Incentivized testnet ML rewards: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- MintFun testnet bug-hunt prizes: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.
- RioSwap testnet bug-hunt prizes: Releases depend on recipients claiming tokens or on grants being awarded.

Parts of this allocation with their own release dates are charted as their own allocations; the chart shows the rest here.
Dates past the last dated anchor are projected at the 120-second target block interval
Description
#2825
Mintlayer is a blockchain designed to improve direct token interoperability and enable new methods for trading value, creating systems, and participating in trustless finance, all built on Bitcoin. It aims to facilitate decentralized financial markets, tokenization of assets, and decentralized exchanges.
