Overview
Hxro is a project built around a simple idea: trading apps can share the same market infrastructure instead of building every part from scratch. Its Solana-based network was designed to provide tools for derivatives, including order books, liquidity, margin calculations, and settlement. A derivative is a contract whose value depends on something else, such as the price of Bitcoin. The network’s token, HXRO, has roles in governance and ecosystem incentives. (coingecko.com)
Hxro began as a game-like crypto trading platform. It later broadened its focus to infrastructure that other developers could use. That history explains why descriptions of Hxro often cover both MoonRekt, an early trading product, and Dexterity, a protocol for building derivatives markets. They are parts of the same project’s development, but they serve different purposes. (medium.com)

History & Team
From trading game to network
Hxro was established in 2018 by Dan Gunsberg, Rob Levy, Danny Johnson, Lawrence Richardson II, and Greg Zanotti. The founding team brought experience in trading, finance, poker, software, and data analysis. Gunsberg and Levy were closely associated with the project’s early direction. Gunsberg described his background in financial and commodity derivatives, while both founders discussed the idea of making market participation more interactive. Hxro Games, the early company, was incorporated in Bermuda. (medium.com)
The team began developing its platform in 2018 and launched a beta in January 2019. Its best-known early product, MoonRekt, let people take positions on whether a reference price would rise or fall over a set period. Hxro later moved toward a broader Solana network meant to support applications built by other teams. (medium.com)
In November 2021, Hxro Network announced a $34 million strategic token round co-led by SIG DT Investments, Jump Crypto, and Blockchain Capital. The announced participants also included Coinbase Ventures, Solana Ventures, CoinFund, and several trading firms. The funding announcement described plans for shared derivatives infrastructure, network incentives, and a treasury. (prnewswire.com)
Technology & How It Works
Shared markets on Solana
Hxro’s network is built around reusable components. One is Dexterity, a framework for creating markets with different instruments, fees, and risk rules. An instrument is the contract being traded, such as a futures contract. Rather than requiring every app to maintain a separate market, the design allows apps using Dexterity to draw on shared order-book liquidity. An order book is a list of offers to buy and sell at stated prices. (github.com)
Another component is SPANDEX, the margin and risk engine described by an application built on the network. Margin is the collateral placed behind a trading position. A risk engine measures an account’s positions and helps determine how much collateral the account needs. This matters for derivatives because a position can change value before its contract ends. (pepperdex.gitbook.io)
Market data is also essential. Apps using Hxro’s order-book design can use price oracles, which bring reference prices into blockchain programs. PepperDEX’s documentation names Pyth and Switchboard as oracle providers for its Hxro-based markets. Those feeds help a market track the asset on which a contract is based. (pepperdex.gitbook.io)
Hxro also developed a parimutuel protocol for markets in which participants share a pool. In a two-outcome market, people choose one side or the other. When the outcome is known, the winning side divides the pool according to each participant’s share. Hxro’s documentation pairs this protocol with a smart automated market maker, called sAMM, designed to supply liquidity to these markets. (docs.hxro.network)
Tokenomics & Utility
HXRO is the ecosystem’s utility and governance token. Its reported total supply is one billion tokens. HXRO began as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and also has a Solana token representation. These versions use different token addresses and operate on different blockchains. (medium.com)
The token’s role has changed with the project. On the original gaming platform, HXRO was used for contest entries and benefits tied to user activity. In the network design, staking connects token holders to governance and rewards. Staking means placing tokens in a protocol under its rules for a period of time. Hxro’s strategic-round announcement said its staking system was intended to support governance, liquidity incentives, and rewards connected to network activity. (medium.com)
An early part of the token distribution involved long lockups. In June 2019, Hxro announced a four-year lockup for more than 470 million tokens held by founders, early investors, and angels. It also announced a separate lockup and staged release for more than 123 million tokens associated with advisers, pre-seed investors, and other team members. These were historical distribution arrangements, rather than a description of how staking works. (medium.com)
The economic idea behind HXRO is that apps using shared infrastructure may generate fees, while staking and incentive programs connect parts of that activity to network participants. The exact benefit to any participant depends on the rules of the application and staking program they use. (prnewswire.com)
Ecosystem & Use Cases
Trading apps and event markets
Hxro serves two broad groups: developers building markets and people using the apps those developers create. Developers can use its components to build interfaces for futures and other derivatives without starting with an empty order book and a new margin system. Traders interact with the resulting app, while much of the market machinery runs underneath it. (github.com)
PepperDEX provides an example of the app-focused approach. Its documentation describes a perpetual and expiring-futures exchange powered by Hxro, using Dexterity’s shared order book and SPANDEX for margin calculations. PepperDEX also describes a connection between its own incentives and HXRO staking. These are features of a particular ecosystem application, rather than functions that every Hxro-based app must use. (pepperdex.gitbook.io)
MoonRekt shows the project’s earlier, more game-like use case. Its short-duration contracts grouped “Moon” and “Rekt” positions into pools, with payouts tied to the amounts placed on each side. The later parimutuel protocol widened that basic idea into a framework developers could use for financial, gaming, or other event-based markets. (medium.com)
Advantages & Challenges
Hxro’s main design advantage is reuse. A developer can work with existing market components instead of building an order book, pricing connections, and margin logic independently. Shared liquidity can also help separate apps avoid splitting their orders across many small books. Solana gives these components a common blockchain on which applications can interact. (github.com)
The design also involves trade-offs. Derivatives markets need reliable reference prices, clear margin rules, and enough participation on both sides of a market. A shared order book can bring apps together, but it still depends on developers building useful interfaces and participants placing orders. Parimutuel markets have a different challenge: their payouts depend on the makeup of each pool. These features make Hxro more specialized than a general-purpose token or a simple spot-trading app. (pepperdex.gitbook.io)
Where to Buy & Wallets
HXRO is available through Meteora on Solana and Uniswap on Ethereum. The Solana and Ethereum versions require a wallet on the matching network. Phantom can receive Solana tokens, while MetaMask can display Ethereum ERC-20 tokens after the token address is imported when needed. Solana transactions use SOL for network fees. (coingecko.com)
The token address is the clearest way to distinguish HXRO from tokens with similar names. The Ethereum contract address is 0x4bd70556ae3f8a6ec6c4080a0c327b24325438f3; the Solana token address shown for HXRO is HxhWkVpk5NS4Ltg5nij2G671CKXFRKPK8vy271Ub4uEK. A transfer must use an address and wallet that match the token’s blockchain. (coingecko.com)
Regulatory & Compliance
Rules for a token and rules for trading derivatives are separate matters. In the United States, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission describes registration requirements for markets offering certain futures and options products. Hxro Network’s own developer repository states that Dexterity trading is barred in the United States and other jurisdictions. In the European Union, MiCA excludes crypto-assets that qualify as financial instruments; derivatives can instead fall under financial-instrument rules. Where an Hxro-based app may operate therefore depends on its products and the jurisdiction it serves. (cftc.gov)
Islamic finance raises a different question about the contracts themselves. The International Islamic Fiqh Academy considers conventional options contracts impermissible under its Shariah rulings. Hxro’s options-oriented derivatives and parimutuel betting do not fit that approach to Shariah-compliant trading. Holding HXRO as a token and entering a particular Hxro-based contract are distinct activities, so the nature of the activity matters to a religious assessment. (iifa-aifi.org)
Future Outlook
Hxro’s long-term role rests on whether developers continue to use its shared infrastructure. The network’s design leaves room for different interfaces to connect to order-book markets, margin tools, and parimutuel protocols. An app focused on expiring futures may use those tools differently from one focused on event outcomes. (github.com)
For HXRO, the important link is between useful applications and the network’s token functions. Governance and staking have a clearer purpose when applications use the underlying protocols. Hxro’s move from a single gaming platform toward developer infrastructure makes that connection central to understanding the project. (prnewswire.com)
Summary
Hxro is a Solana-based effort to provide shared building blocks for derivatives and parimutuel markets. It grew out of an interactive trading platform and developed into an infrastructure project centered on tools such as Dexterity. HXRO ties the ecosystem to token-based governance and incentives. Its place in crypto is defined less by one trading screen than by the applications developers build on its market tools. (coingecko.com)
