Overview
Avantis (AVNT) is the token associated with an on-chain trading protocol built on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network. The protocol began under the Avantis name and became Veranta on September 14, 2026. It offers markets linked to cryptocurrencies and traditional assets, including currencies, metals, commodities, and equities. AVNT remains the token symbol under the Veranta name. (avantisfi.com)
The platform’s main product lets traders take leveraged positions on an asset’s price without buying the asset itself. A trader can take a long position when expecting a price to rise or a short position when expecting it to fall. Other participants supply USDC, a dollar-pegged stablecoin, to help support trading. AVNT connects these groups through staking, rewards, and planned governance. (docs.avantisfi.com)

History & Team
From launch to Veranta
Avantis began developing its cross-asset trading platform in 2023 and launched on Base mainnet in February 2024. Its early focus was bringing more than cryptocurrency markets into decentralized finance. The team later introduced new ways to provide liquidity and a trading product that charges a fee when a position is profitable rather than an upfront trading fee. AVNT was introduced in 2025, followed by a major platform upgrade and the Veranta name in 2026. (testnet.avantisfi.com)
The project’s published documentation identifies Harsehaj Singh as CEO and Raymond Dong as COO. The foundation works with contributors across engineering, product development, and finance. Its 2023 seed round raised $4 million, with participants including Pantera Capital, Founders Fund, Galaxy Digital, and the Base Ecosystem Fund. An $8 million Series A round was co-led by Founders Fund and Pantera Capital. That round closed in mid-2024 and was announced in June 2025. (avantisfi.com)
Technology & How It Works
Trading through a shared liquidity system
The protocol uses smart contracts to manage positions and settlement on Base. Traders post USDC as collateral, then choose a market, direction, and leverage level. Leverage makes a position larger than the collateral posted. The position’s value changes with the price of its chosen market, and it can be closed without delivering the underlying currency, metal, or other asset. (docs.avantisfi.com)
USDC supplied by liquidity providers helps support these positions. Earlier vault designs offered senior and junior tranches, giving depositors different ways to share in fees and trading results. Depositors received a vault token representing their position and could choose a lock period for additional rewards. This makes liquidity provision part of the exchange’s core design, rather than a separate activity. (docs.avantisfi.com)
Veranta’s newer trading system combines an automated market maker, or AMM, with requests for quotes, or RFQs. An AMM uses set rules to provide liquidity, while an RFQ can bring in a quote for a trade. The hybrid design aims to serve a wider range of markets. Crypto markets use perpetual-style positions; real-world asset markets use a contract-for-difference-style model supported by the same USDC liquidity and risk system. (v2-mainnet.avantisfi.com)
Prices and trading fees
Because traders are following prices from other markets, the platform relies on external price feeds called oracles. Its documentation describes Pyth Pro as a source of timely prices and Chainlink as a cross-check where both feeds are available. The system can stop an order when the feeds differ beyond a set limit. (docs.avantisfi.com)
One trading option, now called Upside Perps, takes its fee from profitable outcomes instead of charging an upfront trading fee. The platform also offers other trading tools and fee structures, so the fee model depends on the product selected. (v2-mainnet.avantisfi.com)
Tokenomics & Utility
Supply and distribution
AVNT is an ERC-20 token issued on Base with a fixed original supply of one billion tokens. Its published allocation reserves 50.1% for community and ecosystem purposes: 12.5% for an initial airdrop, 28.6% for on-chain incentives, and 9% for builder and ecosystem grants. The remaining allocations are 26.61% for investors, 13.3% for the team and advisers, 8% for a liquidity reserve, and 2% for the foundation. Team and investor allocations follow a vesting schedule that includes an initial 12-month period before gradual release. (docs.avantisfi.com)
These categories show what the token is meant to support. Incentives can recognize trading, liquidity provision, referrals, and other contributions. Builder grants can support tools or products that connect to the exchange. The allocation does not mean that every reserved token reaches users at once. (v2-mainnet.avantisfi.com)
Staking, governance, and burns
AVNT holders can stake tokens in a Security Module that provides an additional backstop for USDC liquidity providers. Stakers receive AVNT rewards and can receive benefits tied to platform activity. Staked tokens can be used to cover a shortfall under the module’s rules. Separately, the project describes governance as a way for holders to take part in decisions about matters such as fees, new markets, and protocol development as voting features develop. (docs.avantisfi.com)
The token economy also includes a buyback-and-burn program introduced in March 2026. Under its initial rules, a portion of eligible trading fees is used to purchase AVNT and send it to a burn address. Burning permanently removes those purchased tokens from the supply. (developer.avantisfi.com)
Ecosystem & Use Cases
The exchange brings several kinds of price exposure into one on-chain interface. A trader can use it to express a view on Bitcoin, a currency pair, gold, or another supported market. These positions are synthetic: their results follow prices, while the trader uses USDC collateral rather than taking ownership of the referenced asset. For liquidity providers, the use case is supplying capital to the system and sharing in outcomes set by the vault rules. (docs.avantisfi.com)
AVNT has a different role from USDC collateral. It supports staking, ecosystem incentives, and the project’s governance plans. Developers can also build around the trading platform using its software development tools. The 2026 Veranta upgrade placed more emphasis on tools for automated strategies, alongside features such as orders that split a trade over time and controls for closing part of a position. (v2-mainnet.avantisfi.com)
Advantages & Challenges
A notable strength of the design is its range of markets. Shared USDC liquidity and external price feeds allow the platform to offer exposure across crypto and traditional asset categories. Its different trading products also give users a choice of fee models, while the vault structure gives liquidity providers distinct ways to participate. Base provides the network on which these activities settle. (docs.avantisfi.com)
The same design has practical limits. Leveraged positions can be liquidated when their collateral no longer supports them. Trading depends on external price feeds, enough liquidity for each market, and the rules of the relevant smart contracts. A market linked to a real-world asset also depends on how that market is priced and quoted. For AVNT stakers, the Security Module ties rewards to the possibility that staked tokens are used to cover a protocol shortfall. These are central features of how the platform works. (docs.avantisfi.com)
Where to Buy & Wallets
AVNT is available on Coinbase and on Binance in supported regions. It has also been listed for spot trading on other centralized exchanges and on Aerodrome, a decentralized exchange on Base. Exchange access depends on the platform and the user’s location. Buying AVNT on a spot market means buying the token itself, rather than opening a leveraged position on Veranta. (coinbase.com)
AVNT can be held in a self-custody wallet that supports Base tokens, such as MetaMask. The wallet should be set to the Base network when receiving the native token. If AVNT does not appear automatically, its published Base contract address can be used to add it as a custom token: 0x696F9436B67233384889472Cd7cD58A6fB5DF4f1. (docs.avantisfi.com)
Regulatory & Compliance
The legal treatment of a token and access to a derivatives platform are separate matters. Coinbase lists AVNT for spot purchases in the United States, while Veranta’s September 2026 terms exclude U.S. persons from its platform services. The foundation has also published a crypto-asset white paper describing AVNT as a utility token for staking and governance under the European Union’s MiCA framework. Local rules and platform eligibility determine which services a person can use. (coinbase.com)
Veranta’s leveraged synthetic trading model generally does not align with mainstream Shariah-compliant finance. Its positions track price changes without transferring ownership of the underlying asset, and Islamic finance rulings restrict many conventional derivatives and contracts centered on speculation or excessive uncertainty, known as gharar. That assessment concerns the trading activity; AVNT also has functions connected to staking and governance. (testnet.avantisfi.com)
Future Outlook
Veranta’s stated direction is to expand its selection of global markets and the tools used to trade them. Its 2026 upgrade introduced the hybrid liquidity design and Upside Perps, while its roadmap describes additional real-world markets and other derivatives. The team has also pointed to infrastructure for developers and automated trading systems as an area of work. These plans show how the platform intends to grow beyond its original perpetuals exchange. (avantisfi.com)
For AVNT, future development centers on how staking, incentives, governance, and the buyback program fit together. The token’s place in the ecosystem will depend on which planned features are put into use and how participants use them. (v2-mainnet.avantisfi.com)
Summary
Avantis, now operating as Veranta, combines on-chain leveraged trading across crypto and global markets with USDC-based liquidity. AVNT is its ecosystem token, used for staking and incentives and designed for governance participation. Its main features are easiest to understand as parts of one system: traders take synthetic positions, liquidity providers support those positions, and the token connects participants to the protocol’s development.
